When the Fury returned to full-size status in 1965, three trim versions were offered. Just like Chevrolet. Base trim was the Fury I (Biscayne), Fury II (Bel Air), and Fury III (Impala). The cars were little changed in 1966, including the seller’s Fury III 2-door hardtop. It has a freshly rebuilt 318 cubic inch V8 and lots of other new parts, installed or in the trunk. The Fury rode on the smaller B-body platform from 1962 to 1964 due to a competitive miscue on Chrysler’s part. When it returned to the bigger C-body in 1965, the public responded positively with triple the sales of the 1964 models. The Fury further copied Chevy by using a multiple combination of taillights based on the model; the Fury still outsold the Plymouth on a scale of 3 to 1).
You’ll need to read the seller’s listing at least twice to figure out what’s going on. The Plymouth has at least 124,000 miles, as the odometer has rolled over. The 318 V8 has been rebuilt, though we don’t know if it’s original to the Fury. Other new stuff includes the wiring, aluminum radiator with electric fan, master cylinder and power brake booster, disc brakes up front, and new wheels and rubber donuts. The list of new stuff goes on and on, and the trunk has $1,500 worth of spare goodies in it.
We’re told the interior is new (not original materials), but why did they put on that tiny little steering wheel? That would have to be the first thing to go. If my math is correct, the seller has spent $4,500 (the shop plus spares), so that amounts to nearly half of the asking price for you to take this Plymouth home. Yet later he/she says $16,000. The body may need work, as the seller is sending along a set of new rear quarter panels. So, there is work that remains to be performed. Are you on board with this project?

I get the impression that the seller either doesn’t use English as a first language or just isn’t a very good writer. But at least it’s descriptive with enough pictures to be able to glean a fair idea of what the seller has for sale here. Considering a lot of the CL ads we see that have a paucity of information; this ad is informative once you dig into it. I agree that the steering wheel and tachometer detracts from the presentation. I hope the seller has the original steering wheel as a stock replacement in the correct color may take some hunting. Even if you ditch the tachometer a hole will remain in the top of the dashboard so leaving it in place may be the lesser of two evils. I’m also not liking the replacement upholstery. It’s nothing close to period correct let alone stock. Another question is does the seller have the original wheel covers? The present red wheels may have new tires on them but for me the wheel treatment is a turn off. Not trying to be mean here just stating my observations and preferences. As usual the car is so far away from me that it might as well be on the dark side of the moon. I’m sort of kicking around the notion of acquiring a 1960’s car preferably from the Pentastar persuasion. So I liked checking this out. Speaking as a Mopar aficionado and in particular a Plymouth person I hope it finds a new home. GLWTS.
I grew up riding in the back seat of 2 Furys. The green bomb and the gold bomb. Most every weekend Dad was out in the garage tearing apart something broken on one of them. We got a huge upgrade replacing them with a 74 Pinto wagon and a 76 Cutlass Supreme in the late 70s
I believe it was from a Cheech and Chong movie or a skit. When asked why the tiny steering wheel the response was because it’s easier to drive when you have handcuffs on.
The tiny wheel would definitely have to go. It is definitely illegal at least in PA. It would never pass inspection.
I had one of my customized Ford Econoline, which had no power steering, a three speed manual and glass packs coming out the side and it was not fun to park.
I always thought that the front grille wasn’t this model’s best look. The seller must think so too as there are NO pictures of it from the front.

The tiny steering wheel belongs on a dragster, no an American road car, not even a souped-up one. Why spend all the money on upholstery, then cut a rectangle in the dash pad?
Note to self: stop moving when taking pictures. Or is it blurry because the car is so fast? Also, why leave ripped-out wiring in the truck that looks like a bowl of spilled spaghetti. Haiyaa!
