By 1999, the Pontiac Firebird was nearing the end of its life cycle, with the model hitting the end of the road after the 2002 run. This was one of the GM offerings that saddened me the most when it was discontinued, especially since the fourth and final generation cars were at such a high point during the late nineties. However, some well-kept examples are still out there, such as this 1999 Pontiac Firebird Formula here on eBay. This one is located in Jacksonville, Florida, and it checks many of the right boxes. Bidding has reached $12,150 so far, but it’s going to take more than that for this one to find a new owner, as this amount is still short of the reserve.
For my taste, there’s no better color than black for most cars, and this body style just rocks it. The seller says that this one’s only had one owner, and judging from the photos, it’s been well-cared-for outside and shows no signs of abuse. This was also produced during the period when T-Tops were still an option on a few autos, and fortunately, that’s one of the features that can be found here, along with the factory 17-inch polished aluminum wheels. Although the styling looks pretty aggressive from any angle, the Ram Air hood makes this one even more intimidating, especially when it’s seen coming up in your rear view mirror!
The positives continue when it comes to performance, with the 5.7-liter V8 rated at 320 horsepower when equipped with the WS6 package. More good news is that this one’s also got a manual transmission, and the car has been driven sparingly, racking up only 48,000 miles over the past quarter century. Things in the engine compartment are about as clean as when this Pontiac was brand new, and with such limited use, there’s probably a lot of good life left for the future owner to enjoy.
There are no disappointments to be found inside either, with leather seats including a power-assisted driver’s bucket. Some other fun accessories include a tilt steering column, cruise control, and an AM/FM Stereo with a CD player, so this one scores some extra F-Body points for offering a high level of comfort in addition to performance. I’m not spotting much to find fault with here, and I’d welcome this one with open arms into my fleet if I had the space. What are your thoughts on this 1999 Pontiac Firebird Formula? Any ideas where the seller may have set his reserve?
The last gen of the wonderful Formula model. A favorite of the lineup. Very fast cars for the time. Stick shift and in the best color too. Nice. 😎 🏁
I’d put an LS in it
It has an LS motor in it, starting in 1998
That was a joke
Beautiful car though I didn’t really like the giant nostril hood.
Maybe I missed it, but there doesn’t seem to be any reference to a 6-speed on the window sticker.
On the window sticker just below the Fuel economy information it states its a 6 speed. This is a rare bird, there was only about 1500 Formulas with the W6S made in 1999. Then you pop in a 6 speed and I’m sure the build number gets even lower. Love this Firebird generation. Pontiac had everything right with these Firebirds and then GM discontinues them. Sad, very sad. I would definitely pursue this one however I just purchased a Ford Taurus SHO. Very nice machine in its own right.
My friend bought a 2000 Trans Am convertible, in black. His had the Ram Air with a six speed. What a fun car to drive, and it sure felt like it had gobs of power! Sad day was when he decided to trade it in on the Dale Earnhart edition of the Monte Carlo. A nice car in its own right, but nowhere near as good a car (at least in my opinion) the Trans Am.
