Sometimes you have to thin the herd. And that’s what it appears a collector is doing in Roanoke, Virginia, eliminating some of the cars in the fold. There are some other vehicles there, but since the seller says none of the ones for sale are running, that may be the criteria for letting them go. Between the 1948 and 1963 model years, there are two Fords, two Jeeps, and two Studebakers, one of the latter being the rare Avanti. Available here on craigslist, the cheapest one is $1,200, and the most expensive is $7,000, with everything else in between. Let’s take a peek at them by production numbers.
1963 Studebaker Avanti
This is the R1 edition which means it doesn’t have a supercharger. The 289 V8 that’s in the Stude is correct, but it may be a parts car with the passenger side windshield pillar possibly missing. Number built: 2,282. Asking Price: $1,200 (no title).
1958 Studebaker Silver Hawk
There were a variety of Hawks built between 1956 and 1963, with this being the Silver Hawk coupe. The body seems to be in fair shape, and it has a 289 V8 with a Paxton supercharger. Number built: 6,927. Asking Price: $3,500 (title status?)
1961 Ford Thunderbird
This is the convertible edition from the first year of the T-Bird’s third generation. Some of the parts are off the car and the body has been primed and ready for paint. It comes with a period-correct motor and transmission. Number built: 10,516. Asking Price: $7,000 (title status?)
1955 Ford Thunderbird
Not much is known about this one. It’s from the first year run of Thunderbirds and the fair body looks okay and somewhat complete. Number built: 16,155. Asking Price: $6,000 (title status also unknown)
1948 Jeep Jeepster (s)
There are two of these in convertible form with correct 4-cylinder engines and 3-speed manual transmission. They were some of the first new vehicles produced after World War II. Number built: 20,000 across 1948 and 1949. Asking Price: $2,500 each (may have titles)
If it doesn’t have a title be careful, you might wind up with more problems than the car is worth. Getting a title for one of these you might have to track down the original owner and that can turn out to be a major pain in the wallet.
I want one of those Fairlanes. (Silver Hawk Pic).
In a lot of states you can get a bonded title. Go to your local county courthouse for info. Not cheap but not super expensive either but a little time consuming.
It is posted right in the text of the CL ad that the seller has titles for all but the Avanti.
I am not concerned with the cars but wow that’s a beautiful /huge storage /work facility and its worth way more than the cars !
The 1958 Silver Hawk coupe wasn’t equipped with a supercharger when new, that engine was only available on the Golden Hawk hardtop. A quick look at the dashboard shows a clock where the tach would be located, and there is no boost gauge, so if this car has the supercharged 289, it was added later on.
