The Town Car was a Lincoln fixture for more than 30 years (1981 to 2011). It succeeded the Continental in the luxury car lineup. The boxy first generation ran through 1989 and – being less bulky than some predecessors – ran on smaller engines like a 302 cubic inch V8. Perhaps to haul motorcycles, this one from 1984 was cut up to resemble Chevrolet’s El Camino “gentleman’s pickup” or the Ford Ranchero. So that makes it either a Lincolncamino or a Townchero now. Located in Canton, Massachusetts, this non-running project is available here on Facebook Marketplace for the cheap wheels price of $550. A nod goes to Rocco B. for this one-of-a-kind tip.
Lincoln has always competed head-to-head with Cadillac. The 1984 edition was quite popular, and they sold more than 93,000 of these fancy 4-door sedans. According to the seller, this vehicle’s prior owner wanted to transport his bike to the annual rally in Sturgis and built this pickup and a couple of others similar to it for that purpose. Only three photos are provided, so we can’t inspect the quality of the handiwork done here or the condition of the bed, interior, and engine compartment.
The seller is hard-pressed to let this project go, but life has its twists and turns. There is no title, but an older registration from Rhode Island may be floating around. Body work will be needed, including fixing some rust on the frame. The engine and transmission (whatever they are) were working at one time, but apparently not now. And the exhaust needs repairs. The seller is hopeful that its next owner will know what to do to get this machine back in good form and on the road again.

Why even BOTHER? When treated right, these cars were nigh indestructable, not inclined to rust, and ran nearly forever. I’ve never seen one of these Panthers with a rusty frame. Someone modified it, then never took care of it. Very sad. But I agree: not even it it were free.
Neighbors across the road had something similar around 1970. I seem to recall it was made from a ’58 Ford wagon with the roof remaining over the front row seat. Jagged metal everywhere. I was scolded for taking a ride in it. This looks like something the seller wants hauled away.
Lincoln missed their chance.
Matthew McConaughey could have sold these like chicken-fried steaks at a tent revival.
