Projects or Parts? Trio of 1970s Plymouth Satellites

The Satellite arrived in 1965 as the top series in the mid-size Plymouth line-up previously dominated by the Belvedere. The cars were redesigned in 1971, and Sebring and Sebring Plus became the leading Satellite models. The seller has a trio of these cars, two from 1973 and the other from 1974. One runs, but all three are projects that might net out 1 or 2 good cars. Located in Murphy, Idaho, this is a package deal sale here on craigslist where $7,000 OBO transfers them all into your custody.

Plymouth retired the Belvedere name after 1970, so the Satellite carried the torch going forward for a few years. These cars were treated to “fuselage” styling with the 1971 rework, but by 1973 the automobiles recovered some of their boxy look from earlier. With tightening emissions controls coming into play in 1972, many of the big-block options were gone. We suspect that most of the 1973-74 Satellites came with a 318 cubic inch V8 like the ones in all three of the seller’s project or parts cars.

We’re told that the Plymouth with the piece cut out of the right rear quarter may be the best of the lot, as it runs, although the TorqueFlite automatic transmission will require work. And the interior is pretty rough but might pass if you threw a blanket over the front seat. The trio each had factory air conditioning when new, and only automatics were ordered. The 318s in the remaining two cars turn freely, but their health beyond that is unknown.

There are plenty of ways you could go here. Fix up the one that runs and try to make one good car out of the other two. Or you could treat all of them as parts cars for another project you may have that is in better shape than this trio. Or you might shoot for making a Road Runner clone out of one of these machines, but the engine would have to go. We’re told the three vehicles will be sold with a bunch of extra parts, too.

I guess the boneyards wouldn’t take ’em. Wanted too much to haul ’em off.

For what I see of two of them, they’ve already used parts. Looks like they had to do a quarter panel repair, so they cut into the green one. There’s also a side marker and taillight maybe both missing off the brown one. So I don’t know if there’s really anything left for usable parts. Not worth $7k imo.
