EXCLUSIVE: Round Four at the Georgia Collection

As some of you likely know, I am helping to clear out a large collection of salvage and project vehicles from a private owner. You can read more about the collection here in Part I; here in Part II; and Part III, readable here. We also have a dedicated post on the trucks in the collection viewable here as well as the large stash of vintage motorcycles here. This is the recap from my latest visit, which includes this very solid Chevy Apache project and many others, captured in the large photo gallery below.

What Makes It Special: We’ve been over this a few times now, so I won’t bore you with the details. The gist of it is that unlike an actual salvage yard that won’t do anything except sell individual parts, you can still waltz in here and pickup a great project for a fair price. In addition to this clean Chevy Camaro that was just pulled out, we also have a 1960 Willys Pickup Project; an AMC Javelin SST; several Mercedes W108 Parts Cars; a 1949 Prairie Schooner Trailer; a Dodge Panel Van Project; a clean 1980 Toyota Supra 5-speed; and several Z-cars as part of a Datsun 240/260Z Collection.

Body Condition: All of the cars and trucks have some varying degrees of cosmetic issues, but few are lost causes. I hear an awful lot about how rusty these vehicles must be, and I think any of our buyers would confirm that is not the case. Excellent projects like this 1978 Ford Bronco have some rot-through in the rear fenders, but the floors are solid and the structure is sound. This Bronco also has a super clean interior and is one of the few that hasn’t been hacked-up for off-road use.

Mechanical Condition: Most of these vehicles fall under the category of “ran when parked”, but to be honest, the condition of most is unknown. The seller is absolutely willing to crank over engines that are known to have been good, and has a ton of spare engines if the one in your chosen vehicle doesn’t want to spin. This Studebaker Lark is a car I hadn’t seen in my previous visits, and it looks extremely restoreable with no major rot to report.

One of my favorites is this 1984 Toyota Supra, which is a project but remains surprisingly complete. There’s been some stripping of the dash controls but the leather buckets with lumbar adjustment and crack-free dash remain in place, along with the manual gearbox and DOHC inline-six under the hood. It needs some love but heavy factory undercoating has kept the floors intact and these cars are coming back strong on the emerging collector car market. There is no bidding. The seller has an asking price for each vehicle. You use the CONTACT SELLER form above to inquire about the vehicle(s) that you are interested in. Very easy, just fill in the above form and hit the SUBMIT button.

I’ve got to say, this round, there are some collectibles and GA. stuff too, not wasted away. I think a better way to sell this stuff, would be find a nearby open field, and drag these out of the brambles and line up the good ones. Be some work, but I bet they’d move a lot faster.

I’d be like a broke kid in a candy store if I could visit this place. No money to purchase anything but I sure would enjoy it.

What really needs to happen is perhaps advertise on some place like Rallypoint (Social media for active duty as well as veterans) and find some young guy who is getting out of the military or a veteran who can work but does not have a place to stay. (Or several of them) and a good solid week or 2 tidying up the place, pressure washing the cars, dragging them out and lining them up and some better pictures, details on each and a bit of marketing.
Bribe with trades for a project or 2, some cash from the proceeds, place to stay and some basic meals, and Beer on the weekends. If you like, Ill post you a help wanted ad on Rallypoint. Bet it would appeal to a few people. But you would net way more money and expedite the whole thing.
Its something I would have been willing to do, But i got my hands full these days.
