Top 10 Barn Finds Of 2012

top-ten-barn-finds-2012

After reflecting on the past year, we came up with a list of our favorite barn finds for 2012. Our choices were based on how much interest each find received and our own personal preferences. So without further ado, here they are:

shelter-find-chevrolet

#10. This photo was snapped by a reader while on a Jeep tour in Bisbee, Arizona. Little did they know that this old Chevrolet had quite a past. Read the post and watch as the story unravels.

basement-1967-camaro

#9 – People have been known to store cars in strange places. This 1967 Camaro was pulled out of a basement and it ended up being quite a catch.

1957-corvette-race-car

#8This ex-drag Corvette was submitted in hopes that our readers could help the owner track down some history. Well, turns out that quite a few people had information about its past.

mustang-salvage-yard

#7 – Nothing is more exciting than running across a huge cache of cars. This one is even better because they are all Mustangs!

1967-shelby-gt500-rear-corner

#6 – We have seen trees growing up through cars before, but we never thought anyone would let that happen to a Shelby GT500. Well, they did…

1956-mercedes-gullwing

#5 – Few cars are as iconic as the Mercedes Gullwing, so when one shows up on eBay, we take notice. This one was apparently used as an airport runner-up in Canada.

1963-porsche-356b-barn-find-rear-corner

#4 – This barn collapsed a while back, but amazingly this Porsche 356 was left unscathed. We still wonder where it ended up.

entombed-1954-corvette-through-porthole

#3 – The first owner of this 1954 Corvette built a grocery store around it with just a peep-hole for access. Eventually, the building was ripped down and somehow the car made it into the daughter’s living room. A bizarre tale to say the least.

desert-find-1967-camaro-rs-ss-side

#2 – Some cars have good stories, but this 1967 Camaro RS/SS has a great one. Read about a man’s journey to find his mother and this unexpected discovery.

hayloft-find

#1 – Finally, our favorite find for 2012! Sure, it is just a Citroen, but there is no denying that this is a true barn find!

There you have it. It has been an exciting year with many surprises. Our list is subjective of course, so we want to hear your favorites. Please leave a comment to cast your vote and be sure to include a link so everyone can take a look. We will tally them up and announce the people’s choice award in a few days.

I have to vote for the 300SL (#5), seeing as I was the one who made the sale. There are PLENTY more cars from that “barn” which will be coming up for sale in 2013… none of them are of the same caliber, but they are VERY interesting cars, nonetheless!

    Cheers,

I will let “Barn Finds” know about each car as it becomes available. First up: ’71 Trans-Am, ’70 Olds 4-4-2 Convertible (not W-30), ’32 RR 20/25 ‘Southern’ Cabriolet, ’57 Chevrolet Convertible, ’57 T-Bird, ’52 Jag XK-120… most of these are VERY original, preserved cars.

        Cheers,
        Alex Sandor Csank

My vote? The 67′ RS/SS Camaro. The car has an all-American story behind it plus it brought back personal memories for myself & Uncle Frank.

The RS/SS Camaro is very tempting but….

I have no choice: it’s an unrestored, 2-owner 300SL Gullwing with great patina.
    That’s my vote.

I am partial to the ’67 Camaro (#2). The story of this car will continue long after it’s gone. I am the sister of whom my children will inherit the car. Don’t worry. They won’t be getting it for a loooong time.

My vote goes to the Jag on the front of your calendar. Oh, and adieu means good bye, (literally “to God”). I think you wanted ado. Kman

The ’54 Vette is a bizarre story, the Mercedes is an amazing car, but the dessert Camaro is a great car with a great story. It has family, too. It gets my vote.

I think the best “Barn Find” should be the 1967 SS/RS Camaro. This is a great car with a great “family” story behind it! I can’t wait to hear about how this car turns out fully restored. I hope Barn Find will keep up with this Camaro, I would like to see what the car looks like fully restored. The Shelby GT 500 would be my second choice. It pains me to see a Shelby with a tree growing through the engine compartment but atleast it didn’t end up in a junkyard or crusher somewhere. The ’67 SS/RS Camaro gets my vote, thanks Barn Find for the great stories.
